Hi Michelle, I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip for 8-10 days to Ireland and am thinking of the Ring of Kerry area. The purpose of this trip will be to propose to my Girl Friend.
The initial plan was to Base in Killarney and make day trips to various areas along the Ring.
The plan was to see the history of the area, explore the towns, shop and hit the pubs (And at some point ask her to Marry me).
I wasnt planning on renting a car, but taking the bus/walking if possible.
The question i have, In December, will the weather be an issue for any of this?
Do places shut down in December?
If you think that Kerry may not be a good area for this type of trip, can you suggest somewhere in Ireland that isnt a huge tourist trap, is a good visit in December and will still have some romance and history to it?
Ireland's southwest is very beautiful at most times of the year. But the weather in December may not be the best for hiking and walking. However, if you base yourself in Killarney you will have access to trains, buses and tours to places like Dingle, the Ring of Kerry, Gap of Dunmore, etc. Things do close down in December so it will be important to decide your sightseeing carefully.
