Hi Michele and experienced Irish travellers. Do you think June or September is a better month to visit West, Southwest, and Northern Ireland, plus Dublin and Newgrange on the east coast? Comparing the weather, crowds, attractions open for long or short hours, fun in pubs, etc. Also...are there more other young adults traveling in June as opposed to September, making June more fun for my daughters?
June is better for our family, the second half of June, returning around July 3 or 4. June is better because young adult daughters are just home from college and we are all eager to see each other. By September, you know how it is, we'll be getting in each other's hair and ready for a break from each other, not a great time for a family vacation!
Also June is better because then young adult daughters can get a summer job when they return from vacation as they did last summer.
But September is possible, maybe...they work up until labor day and school doesn't start for them til late September. But as I mentioned that would mean going on vacaton just when we are getting on each other's nerves! (Clashes between parental meddling and young adult independence .) Also, September is match-making festival time in Lisdoonvarna maybe bringing crowds, and hubby is eager to see The Burren, but already has a fine wife.
I must say that we get along fairly well on vacation. It's at home that inevitable issues come up.
Michele, what's your favorite time to visit Ireland? What would you advise? Anybody else want to share their opinion or experience?
From what you have told me I think that June would be perfect for you. I generally travel in the spring and autumn because things are open, there are not as many people as in summer and I can look at accommodations without them being fully booked. But June is just the start of the season and can be quiet enjoyable. You will encounter more tourists than in September. Since the whole family is traveling together you will want to have reservations for lodgings. At places like Newgrange you will want to make plans to be there as early as possible after opening time.
With any season there are always compromises. But you are planning your trip so well that I think you will breeze through whatever you decide on.
