all of this whilst the powers that be blow their trumpets of triumph in Dublin and speak of increased tourism revenues this summer season because of the two Head of State visits. Once again, left hand....right hand....
I do hope the powers that be at Aer Lingus have a contingent plan for all of those who have booked flights. Otherwise, they will be shooting themselves in the foot.
Of course, from the workers and Pilots perspective, it makes sense, wholly, to strike at the beginning of the summer season. It is the perfect leverage

From what I gather the main effect at Aer Lingus will be on European and short haul routes where the pilots get messed around and sub contract airlines are being used. The biggest problems are with Pilots based in the UK at Gatwick.
As to the Cliffs well I only go there when its "closed" now anyway. Basic economics says drop your prices-sell more-increase revenue.. but then we are dealing with a county council here so the real world doesn't exist.

The Cliffs is quickly becoming a place that you see once, and then don't feel the need to return to another time because of the cost and the Disneyland approach there now with the visitor's center. paved trails, expensive parking, etc.
What a grand place it was years ago when none of that was in place.
I agree, we've been to the cliffs 3 times and the 1st visit was the best, no visitors center, paved trail or even a roped off area. It was high season and we were practically alone to view the beautiful scenery. I am happy that we had that opportunity many years ago.
Michele and experienced Ireland flyers: What would you do if you were me? We have a flight booked all on one ticket through Air New Zealand. But it includes a connection to an Aer Lingus flight from London to Ireland in September. (We booked this by calling Air New Zealand directly.)
IF you were me, would you just cross your fingers and wait and see what happens? Or would you call Air New Zealand and try to get the Aer Lingus leg of the flight changed to another airline?
Our flights are LAX to London nonstop on Air New Zealand...and connecting to Aer Lingus flight from London to Ireland. (Into Shannon and out of dublin upon departure.)
No worries! Aer Lingus actions are not like here in the USA. They will do a stoppage for a day or two and then fly for a while. Not complete stoppages, just spotty ones so as not to totally shut down the airlline.
Also, you are going in September. Everything should be sorted out by then. Don't even think about it. I posted for those going soon.
The threat of industrial action by pilots at Aer Lingus has been stood down until at least July following all night talks at the Labour Relations Commission.
The decision to postpone tomorrows threatened action was taken on the basis of allowing the company time to put in place changes to rosters agreed at the talks.
Thanks Roy. That is a big weight off everyone's shoulders.
Melissa, If you are like my husband you will find no shortage of things to worry about. I always tell him that 99% of what he worries about never happens. So my philosophy is "why worry?". I guess I have that in common with Alfred E. Neuman.
I kept this from my wife until the threat was over. Amazing she stayed oblivious since she reads the Irish Independent each day! No sense in having her worry that she might not get to go home next week. Besides, I worried enough for both of us.
