Stops along the route - Kenmare to Dublin

We are leaving Kenmare to catch a 8 pm flight out of Dublin. It looks like about a 4.5 hour trip so we have time for a stop along the way. Any suggestions?

AA Route Planner suggests a route through Kilarney up N21 by Limerick, then the M7 to Dublin. Kildare is the only city along this route that I have heard of. Are there any recommended sites along this route or perhaps an alternate that might be better?

Eileen,

Will you have seen the Rock of Cashel yet? If not you could route through the center of the country and see Cahir Castle, Swiss Cottage, Rock of Cashel along the way. If you still had any time left I recommend the Rock of Dunamase near Portlaoise.

I was planning to stop at Cashel and Cahir on the way out to Kenmare. Unless we stop at Waterford on the way from Wicklow to Kenmare and then Cashel and Cahir on the way back to Dublin.

That's an idea. Thanks for the input. I'll add Rock of Dunamase as another possibility.
