GPS and Sprint EVO and copilot app

My husband has a sprint evo phone and found an app called copilot which he has heard has great maps of Ireland.  He is interested in aquiring it, but when I called sprint they told me my GPS would not work (they also told me my phone's wifi would not work in Ireland either, so I suspect the person I spoke to may not be up to speed)

Does anyone know if the GPS on his phone will work?

I have an Acer a500 table and I can download the app but it will cost 35.95 for Uk and Ireland.

Kush,

Some phones work in Ireland, others don't. Why not call Sprint a couple more times. If everyone tells you the same thing you might want to believe them and go with a different plan.

Yeah, contact them again... or stop by your local store. Often the people who sell phones are much more knowledgeable about past and present models than someone at a helpdesk.

FYI - If they said your wifi won't work, I wouldn't trust anything that person said.

If your GPS works, then CoPilot will work (with or without wifi). I used CoPilot on the iPhone and found it useful and as accurate other devices. Here's my overview of the app http://irishfireside.com/2011/02/08/gps-on-your-smartphone/

From my research it seems that the GPS is separate from the cell system. If that is true than my sprint phone's GPS should work. However I am concerned that my phone's software will require a cellular connection - I will keep checking with Sprint until I get someone that I think knows what they are talking about...

Reading this discussion makes me even more glad that I choose to just take a human navigator and a map with me when I visit Ireland. biggrin

well, unfortunately my husband's "human navigator" is me.. and I have dyslexia! In fact I have often wondered if that would make it nearly impossible to make the switch to left hand driving, or if I wouldn't even notice the difference :)

My thought exactly! You can't find that with a GPS.  smile

What does it cost to use a cell phone for Sat Nav/GPS assuming that data usage would be charged at roaming rates? Just curious.

Tony,

Probably cheaper to buy a sat nav at Argos!

FYI - According to the reps at CoPilot Live, their app for iPhone and Android do not use any cellular data.

Agree! Buying a sat nav would be cheaper than roaming data.
