Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival in September: Colorful or Too Touristy?

The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival in County Clare lasts for the whole month of September!

Have you attended and do you find it to be a colorful, interesting, worthwhile event? There appears to be music and dancing every day according to the web-site.

Or...is it too touristy, with crappy tourist music, and a lot of noisy people who are mainly there to get drunk and see who can be the loudest?

We have been to some festivals which are fun and festive, and even have some cultural value, in which case the crowds and noise are easy to tolerate and all part of the fun. But we have been to other festivals which are so touristy they are just a waste of time and money and aren't fun.

What's your vote on the Lisdoonvarna matchmaking festival? We would be there on a weekday, NOT a weekend, if we attend. I have been married to my love for over 25 years so we would just be attending in hopes of experiencing a fun and unique event.

Melissa,

I've not been to the Matchmaking Festival. From feeback that I've heard sometimes it can be good and at other times hokey. It does last a month so I'm sure they have different things on at different times. I suppose it is one of those things that you just have to hit right.

Maybe Tony has been?

As you say Michele it can really vary and you only need a small group of idiots to take fun over the edge. I am a little older now than the last time I was over there and I am not sure I would enjoy it too much, Another problem is that the music caters to different tastes on different nights and with only a couple of choices of venue its difficult to call.

Thanks Tony. I think the consensus is Lisdoon is hit or miss.
