Hi! I'm desperately trying to find a car rental for my dublin holidays, starting tomorrow. I'm 21 and from switzerland, got my license for 1.5 years now. I rented a car in other countries without any problems, but Ireland seems different. I'm reading storys about high charges on credit cards due to a lack of insurance?
And I can't find any company who might rent me a car with my age. Most are >21 or require a minimum oder 2-3 years of driving experience.
What now? I just need a small car, nothing fancy, to explore a bit the isle around Dublin. Not even a week, just a couple of days. Any suggestions?
Welcome to my forum. Unfortunately all the car companies I know of in Ireland require you to be older or have a few years driving experience. I think you will have to use public transportation for this trip. Go to the tourist office in Dublin and they will help you with day tours. Perhaps you will get to return again in a few years.
Dan Dooley rent to 21yr olds but they need a full licence for 2years and there is a premium, the same applies to the lesser know "Irish car hire" The problem is not the hire companies but the hire companies insurance. It is only recently that a learner driver could jump behind the wheel on their own, alone any time. no wonder premiums are through the roof.
