Dublin had as much rain in 6 hours as it usually gets in a month. Bad flooding in city, east coast and No. Ireland. Lots of reports, weather info, satellite views and videos here: http://tinyurl.com/5tqlbjw
That's just one piece of news you missed out on from my Twitter feed.
I wish we only got 2.8" back on august 29th from hurricane Irene. We ended up with 12 to 18" in a 24 hour period. Thanks for the link Michele. It's great to keep up with what is going on over there.
Unfortunately two people died in the flooding. It brought Dublin public transportation to a standstill. Weather experts are predicting more freak weather.
It is a tragedy that 2 people have lost life but this was a freak occurrence on one side of the country. We had been walking on the mountain with friends on Sunday and it did rain (1st time this year my rain coat came out) but Monday and Tuesday just normal for October. Yesterday out in the forest in shirt sleeves, in fact there is Gorse out on the mountain with the mildness thinking that spring is coming. Our friends have gone West to Roundstone and are going up Diamond Hill today, we join them in Clifden tomorrow for the Comhaltas and bank holiday so I hope it stays fair.

Glad to hear the weather is nice on your side of the island. These things come and go. It was obviously an unusual occurance. Hope it stays drier now for the east.
Westport had very hard rain the week prior (Monday 18th). Some localized flooding of fields and a few roads were under water for a stretch. The rivers were high in Mayo and Galway later on that week. Nothing devastating though. Just very wet.
