Donegal Tweed Center Ireland

My wife has been wanting to get me a tweed jacket for some time. Main problem has been with cost. I have loked at jackets in various towns and stores on previous trips.

I didn't find any nformation in the arcives, but has anyone had experience with the Donegal Tweed Center? The Triona Design website has a reasonable price that includes free shipping  with no VAT for out of the EU purchases. Donegal isn't on our radar for next years trip, so a purchase through their website is tempting.

Thanks in advance for any reviews or opinions.

Roy,

I have been to Triona Designs before. It is family run and has been for generations. The people there were very helpful and they had some beautiful hand-woven tweeds. Everything was very well made. Some of the blues and purples were incredible. I think you are safe buying from them.

Thanks Michele. I sent an email to them asking why the conversion from euros to dollars was so inflated. If I can purchase in euros it will make a difference!

Roy,

Could it be DCC? That could account for the inflated price. They are on the tour bus circuit for that area. Perhaps that's the reason. Tell them you prefer to be charged in euros.

We bought some tweed from Triona when we went to Ardara in 2006; a blanket, a poncho and a wrap. They are all incredibly beautiful and well-made. The staff there could not be more helpful. I would highly recommend them, but certainly a trip to Donegal is so much better than purchasing through the internet! You will be spoilt for choice.

I agree about making the trip to Donegal. However, my wife has her heart set on touring elsewhere this year. It's been several years since we have spent any time around Dublin. Co.Wicklow & Co. Cork seem to be the direction we are heading. Family visits to Co. Westmeath and Co. Longford will need to be worked into the plan as well.

My wife and I were discussing the relatively close proximity of Donegal to her sisters house in Drumlish, Co. Longford. Maybe we will make a 2-3 day trip to Donegal, maybe longer and spend a week in the region. Ah, the joys of planning!

Roy,

There is nothing like going shopping yourself, trying things on, making decisions...and then buying much more than you thought you would! wink Who can resist Donegal?

Hi Roy,

I can highly recommend https://trionadesign.com/ it as regular visitors, unfortunately not able to visit this year for obvious reason but hopefully next year!

Ive had my tweed from there for a number of years now and love it. I wear it whenever the weather is cool enough.
