I am so excited about our trip to Ireland in May. Randon questions keep coming to mind so I thought I would just ask the experts.
1. Is it normally warm enough in May for shorts or capris or should we just pack long pants?
2. Day 1 is in Doolin. Do you recommend a boat tour of the Cliffs and Aran Islands? Is it something we should book ahead or wait until we get there and see what the weather is like?
2. Are jeans acceptable everywhere? We are going to the Medieval Banquet at Bunratty and didn't know if it was casual dress.
3. We are leaving from Shannon at 7:00 a.m. Do you think it would be better to turn in the rental car the night before and get a taxi to the airport? We will be staying at Bunratty Manor.
4. Do you think we should we get the heritage card? We plan to visit--Muckross House, Ross Castle, Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, and Swiss Cottage, Blarney Castle, Bunratty Castle.
5. Do you have any recommendations for a spa? Would love to fit in a massage or pedicure. We will mostly be in Counties Clare and Kerry. Kenmare is our base for 4 days.
I always look forward to and appreciate your suggestions.
1. There is no "normal" in Ireland. My husband has worn shorts on occasion in May but it is rare.
2. Wait to see what the weather is. The boats won't go in bad weather anyway.
2. b. Yes, jeans at the banquet are fine and everywhere else.
3. Turn the car on your last evening and order a taxi for morning that evening too. The car desks open at 6 am and you need to be at the airport at minimum 2 hours in advance. When you arrive for your flight the car companies won't even be open.
4. Take a look at the admission prices and determine if it will save you money.
5. There are spas at the Park Hotel & Sheen Falls in Kenmare.
Irish weather is totally unpredictable but May is generally good so pack what you feel comfortable with and remember you can buy cheap enough clothes over here.
I like the Combo Cruise from O'Briens, you are supposed to book the day before but I have always just turned up when taking visitors across,

We went in June last year and there was days a heavy fleece, windbreaker and gloves were in order. I was told before I went to Ireland that if you want to look like a tourist were shorts.
2. Day 1 is in Doolin. Do you recommend a boat tour of the Cliffs and Aran Islands? Is it something we should book ahead or wait until we get there and see what the weather is like?
We wanted to do many boat tours including that one but the wind thought otherwise. Not one tour was running in 10 days.
2. Are jeans acceptable everywhere? We are going to the Medieval Banquet at Bunratty and didn't know if it was casual dress.
Yep and we went to the banquet.

Yep

We didn't, but you should check to see if it is worth it.

Thanks so much!
