Made our first visit to Ireland last May for 2 weeks and we are going back again this May. We had great suggestions from everyone last year...stayed at least two nights in each of Ennis, Doolin, Dingle, Kinsale, Kilkenny and Dublin (into shannon, out of Dublin).
We will fly in and out of Shannon this time (airfare just dropped +$100) but will only be there for 9 days. Planning on spending the whole trip in SW this time. Schull is a must for family reasons. Any suggestions for the West Cork area? We passed thru Kilkee last year and thought it was a neat little town...any recommendations for staying in Kilkee area? Will do Loop Head this time.
Will be returning to one of my favorite towns...Ennis....would also like to get out to the Aran Islands....what's best---day trip or overnite?
Had a rental car last year for $320 for 10 days (turned in the car before our Dublin visit)....9 days this year the cheapest I found was $560....what's up with that or did I just get a fantastic deal last year.
I guess you had a good trip last time since you are returning again?
Many people enjoy the "experience" of staying a night or two on the Aran islands. An entirely different atmosphere after the day trippers leave.
I don't have any personal recs in Kilkee but do in nearby Kilrush. See my Lodgings page for more.
You might venture to Kenmare, my favorite small town. It is easy to do some of W. Cork from there such as Beara, Glengarriff, Tunnel Drive, Bantry, Gougane Barra. If you are up for a splurge try Inchydoney Lodge south of Clonakilty.
Keep checking on cars. The rates change all the time.
