I recommend the WatersEdge Hotel in Cobh. You can access their website from my "Lodgings" page. Cobh is pronounced Cove. I also have a page with pronounciations of Irish towns on my "Tips & Tricks" page. You can access them by clicking on "IrelandYes Index" and clicking the appropriate link.
Cobh is a lovely town. Be sure to visit The Queenstown Story Museum and St. Colman's Cathedral. Both are well worth seeing.
Just to be sure we are talking about the same place it is Seafield B&B in Cobh, Co. Cork run by Margot Allen and this is the website: http://homepage.eircom.net/~allen/ .
All B&B websites look good online. They are advertisments for the accommodations. They put their best face on in any adverts and will only give good comments from past guests. When visiting a B&B in person the reality can be different from the website.
I visited Seafield in May 2004, met the owner and saw the premesis. Suffice it to say that I would not stay at Seafield myself, nor would I recommend it to family, friends, forum members, clients, readers or anyone else. That is my personal opinion. Others are entitled to their own opinions. I look at hundreds of accommodations every year and find only the best to recommend. I do not recommend Seafield.
Michelle, Thank you for recommending Watersedge Hotel. We got reservations for 2 nites with good rates that includes dinner for one night. I have had good communication from Margaret at the hotel. Some of the other places never even anaswered my e-mails. We are visiting cousins who live there. After Cobh we have 7 nites to get to our departure point at Shannon. I was thinking of a nite in Kinsale, Bantry, Kenmare, Killarney, Dingle, Doolin and Shannon. What do you think? We are very excited about this trip and meeting my cousins.
I'm delighted to hear that you have reservations at WatersEdge Hotel. I think you will have a good stay there. Tell Margaret hello from me. I think it is great that you are visiting with your cousins and will have a two-night stay for the family reunion.
For the remainder of your trip you may want to think of a couple of other two-night stays also. Some of the places you mention are very close to each other. Kinsale is very close to Cobh. Killarney and Kenmare are close. Try a re-do of your itinerary and break up those one-night stays. It will make for a trip that is much better paced.
I stayed in Seafield and found it to be a lovely place to stay, and cannot understand your comments. In fact, I would recommend it very highly. I intend to return to Cobh in the near future, and will definitely stay there.
I have also read their guest comments and believe they reflect my experiences very accurately.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Seafield. My comments are purely subjective and my own personal opinion. I have a long list of requirements each place that I recommend must meet.
I did not stay at Seafield or any other place in Cobh. On the day I was there I was looking at lodgings and had reservations elsewhere. So I was passing through on a fact-finding day searching for good places to recommend.
Thanks for your comments and I appreciate your opinion.
