Kilkenny to galway

I will be in Kilkenny for two days and want to go to Galway before heading home. Is it practical to drive to Galway for just 2 days? I would love to spend time on Aran Island, see the coast and arts and crafts but I am not certain if there is adequate time? Wednesday, Thursday and I leave on Friday. Also, I will depart from Dublin-how many hours ahead of time should I plan on being at the airport before my departure time?

Ltravels,

You need to be at Dublin Airport at least 3 hours in advance. If you are returning a car, you need more time. Are you talking about driving from Galway to Dublin for a flight departure? What time is your flight?

This judging by your other post is another part of an Itinerary you have planned. If we knew the rest then we would be better placed to offer guidance.

Ltravels,

It seems like a convoluted trip. Rather than drop people off in Dublin, can they not take a bus or train? Are all of your accommodations set? Or are you currently in the planning stages? Just taking a quick look, I would say drop Galway, spend another night in Kilkenny and spend your last night nearby Dublin. Malahide is a nice village for that.

If you can change the order of your route it might be better.

I'm wondering why skip over the Antrim coast and go to Donegal, then backtrack to Antrim? To me it would make more sense to include Antrim after Belfast, then do Donegal, then back to Dublin.

I still think you should delete Galway. If you won't do that, then delete Kilkenny. Stay nearby the airport the night before departure.

I can delete Galway, I have just had my heart set on it. It is still an option to change that part of the trip. Kilkenny is a must, sometime that week before we leave. I just can't seem to find any interesting places on the southwest corner that would be similar to Galway. You mentioned one, are there others?

Ltravels,

You can really do anything you want. We are just giving our honest opinions based on the reality of traveling around Ireland. Having visited Ireland 50 times I know the logistics. However, it's your choice if you want to drive from Galway to Dublin on departure day. I personally wouldn't do it, but that is not to say you cannot do it. That is entirely up to you.

No, I did not mention a place similar to Galway. All the different cities and towns in Ireland are unique.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a great trip.

I hear what both of you are saying and have been struggling with the last days of my trip for weeks. The idea of Galway has come from people who I have talked to and all the books that I have read. I am trying to be open minded and look into other options. Galway for music and then driving along the coast and stopping in some of the towns i.e (Roundstone), Aran Island is on the wish list but I also feel I am very short of time to do all that. I have looked for ideas in the southwest section of Ireland that would include something like Aran island, music and crafts but nothing jumps out at me.

The logical approach would be to drop down to Galway from Donegal rather than backtrack but as you are basically doing a holiday with your relatives in the middle of a holiday for yourselves then it complicates matters. What makes you think Galway is Arts and Crafts? which part of Galway? Just asking because I live in the county.

Ltravels,

Good luck with your decision. Only you can make it.
