I received an ad from Sceptre for a package deal for 6 nights, one in Dromoland Castle, one in a hotel that appeared quite nice, and 4 in voucher B & Bs. The deal covers airfare and basic car rental, all for about $899 pp. There are a couple of add-ons I want but still, this seems like a really cheap deal to me. I tried adding up the individual units like you say to do and the separate price was much, much higher than this. There are only certain dates that this applies but that's fine with me. I wanted to go in May anyway. So, is this a good deal? I plan to scope out which B & Bs take vouchers before I go (if I go.)
I am cold natured. I saw where some tourists complained of the B & Bs being too cold--no heat on. How cold will I be in Ireland in May?
It sounds like a very good price. Airfare alone can cost as much. Just be aware that you will probably need to add more to the car (insurance, automatic, etc.); the travel vouchers usually include 3-star B&Bs (they are rated 3 to 5 stars and there is a usually a supplement cost for those above 3).
No one can predict the Irish weather. I have a temperature chart of average highs and lows on my Weather page. However, I have been shivering in May and alternatively sweating. Bring warm PJs!
The last time we were in Ireland was in the month of May and some nights were a bit chilly. All of the B&Bs we stayed in had Heated (electric) Mattress Pads, they heat from below you and as you know heat raises. We loved these Mattress Pads so much that we found them Online here in the USA, great on those chilly nights.
Those heated mattress pads certainly take the chill off. Not every B&B has them though. Here is a trick I've learned over the years. If the bed is cold run the hair dryer on it for a few minutes. It will make it toasty. In fact a hair dryer left on for a while in your bedroom can quickly heat the room. But never leave it unattended!!
