any ideas for tours/tour companies that offer day trips from Dublin to Aran Islands?    We will not have a rental car and taking the train will get us there too late for the ferry

We had a great trip via Aer Arann Airlines from an airport west of Galway. I don't know how their Dublin-Galway connections are, but if time is an issue, that may be an option worth checking out. Dan
