We will be in Co Cork (Youghal) on 23 June for six nights. I have done some research including searching the archives here, but am deferring to you all on a preferred day of the week to visit Cork City for a day trip. We will have Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday available.
Apparently our Liz loved the English Market when she popped over last year. As well as the hopper bus there may be a walking tour although I believe the man who used to run this has moved to Waterford?
I think I would do mid-week. Everything will be open and less busy than a weekend. However, Cork it always busy. There is a hopper bus, if interested. If you have time see the Cork City Gaol. Anything else on your "must see" list?
No set agenda- we might take the bus in from Youghal to keep my stress level at vacation mode. Hop on bus a possibility. Probably do some shopping, walking and exploring. Bus rates are quite a bit cheaper if pre-booked on internet, which is part of the reason I asked.
Actually I like it. Not the "kiss the stone experience" but the grounds are beautiful. Last time I got to tour Blarney House for the first time ever. It's always been closed before.
The grounds of Blarney castle are well worth a look, the house is an extra 5 euro I believe. If you are making your judgement from a Rick Steves Tome that's one man I (and lots of Irish) would happily leave exploring the Poison Garden.

Just have lots of other things to do with our time in Co. Cork. My wife is planning to catch up with an old friend in Tramore. One day in Cork City. Time on the beach in Youghal, a trp to Kinsale/Charles Fort. Ardmore cliff walk. Tony, I haven't read any of Rick Steve's books.
