New here and I've been searching through the treads but don't think I've seen this yet. If I missed it and am making redundant topics, sorry, just point me in the right way!
I had a question about booking ahead for an overnight stay at Inishmeer. I am planning on taking a ferry from Doolin, staying the night and returning sometime in the afternoon the next day. The issue is that I've read that it's best to wait to see what the weather is like when I get there but I'm worried that there won't be any place with vacancy and I'm left with no roof. Although, if pubs are open all night, I'll totally stay drinking the night...
So is it better to book ahead or wait and see if the weather permits travel to the island? Also, if I wait and weather makes me stay at Doolin instead, is it difficult to find a place to stay there without booking ahead? Before I forget, I will be there at the end of this month, weather doesn't seem to bad but just in case.
The weather is pretty good at the moment and the end of May is not peak season so you should be fine finding lodgings on the Island. Just take local advice and book the ferry/accomodation the day of travel. Remember you have to get back the following day.
Thank you for the quick reply! Not having to book now is actually kind of a relief for me now so I can use it to plan the rest of the trip. I definitely like being able to just go there and wing it!
I've looked at a few of the ferries operating from Doolin and it seems weather shouldn't be too much of an issue. The local accomodation site you linked is great, so thanks again!
Sometimes winging it can hit problems. The end of May can be busy, The Fledh Nua is on in Ennis and there are a couple of things on the Connemara, Clifden 200yrs and Bog week so if these are part of your itinerary you might want to make a few phone calls.
Welcome to the Forum by the way,,

I second Tony's "welcome"! He always has such good info to share with others. Are you visiting Doolin/Inisheer on a weekend or mid-week? Obviously weekends are more popular. Weather and seas can greatly impact whether you get to Inisheer or not.
Thanks for the welcomes! It will be mid to end of the week. I'll be there on the 31st, a Thursday, and plan on staying in Galway that weekend following my trip at Inisheer. Basically stay Thursday night, see some of the local sights the next morning, and leave around noonish.
I have contacted a few of the hotel/b&bs in Inisheer and will hopefully get a reply soon. I guess the next thing is to start contacting places in Doolin to see if they accomodate walk-ins or how their vacancies look. Fingers crossed that there are no issues, although I hear Doolin is a pretty beautiful place to be stuck at.
Doolin is made up of two small villages. almost every house is a B&B apart from a couple of shops and 3 pubs so no need to worry about accommodation in Doolin the only things on the Burren late May are a Half Marathon on the 26th and possibly of interest some walks out from Ballyvaughan as part of Burren in bloom Month,
Seems like I will be missing all of that, hope I at least get to see all the views!
Sorry for another question but what would be the best way to get to Galway city from Doolin after my, hopeful, trip back? I will not be driving at all and all of my trip to Ireland will be done via buses. I know Bus Eireann goes from Doolin to Galway but I believe that is farther inland than where all the ferry ticket offices are. They have a Doolin (campsite) stop that is within walking distance of the ferries but apparently the only way to Galway is to go to the Cliffs of Moher then transfer back up to Galway.
It is about a 15min walk from the jetty to the bus stop in Doolin which is up by the top campsite. Why they can't turn round at the bottom is probably because of all the cars parked down there?
