Looking for advice on which to do -- Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula -- if we only have time for one or the other. I'll be traveling with my brother and our 87-year-old mother, who is in great health and very spry. We've planned a very full two-week trip and do not want to overtax her, but we do want to see as much as possible.
We're four days in Galway/Clare, four days in Kerry/Cork, and the last four days in Dublin with a detour en route to the Wicklow Mountains.
Much as it pains me to say, Dingle is the lightweight option of the two. Of course it depends on the itinerary over all and Dingle is a detour onto the peninsular.
I would recomend The Beara Peninsula as the best alternative of the three south western peninsulars as you are inluding Cork, The Cork/Kerry border divides Beara and it is a tour bus free zone.

If my choices were between Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula, I personally would pick Dingle Peninsula. But as Tony mentioned, if you were to include the Beara Peninsula in your choices, I'd chose it over the other two.
Great idea! On my last trip over -- about seven years ago -- I did the Beara and remember commenting on just the points y'all are making! It will also simplify my planning immensely. Thanks!
Dingle is smaller and takes less time than the ROK if you are doing a day trip. It has some lovely scenery and I enjoyed the Blasket Island Center while doing Slea Head Drive. If doing only one Dingle has a slight edge for me.
