Kilkenny B&B

Hi Sue:

Have stayed in Dunromin a few times -- it's my favorite B&B there.  Contact Val and Tom and book there if you can.  They are wonderful people and will be tremendous hosts. It is a short walk from their place to city center.

We too are looking at pre-booking our first night our of Dublin on our driving trip around parts of Ireland.  I've contacted a few B&B's in Kilkenny, which is where we want to stop for two days  and either they were booked or weren't open in October which is when we're going.  SInce we know that is where want to stay, and preferable in town where we can enjoy some walking tours , wondered your viewer's opinion of either Dunronin or Alcantra.  They both have availability the nights we'll be there.  I've looked at reviews but have enjoyed your web site very much, so am posting here. I read a few reviews here but they weren't recent stays.

Thanks

Sue.

Sue,

Have you tried Rosquil or Laragh House? Alcantra is fine but I've not stayed there in a few years.

Now that Michele mentions Rosquil, I remember that one of our friends stayed there and liked it. Said it was the best breakfast they had on the trip!

Geno,

Phil and Rhoda do a fantastic breakfast at Rosquil. It is a very nice place to stay.

Michele,

I did have both the Rosquill House and the Lough House on my list, but thought Dunromin would be easier as we wouldn't have to drive into town and park the car to do our walking tours.    It's hard to really judge your distance and not knowing the parking situation in Kilkenny, nor the weather , was leaning toward Dunromin.  But nothing is pre-booked yet.  I am finding that most of the places I'm looking at do require adance credit card to hold, so will most likely do that as we get closer, especially in the towns I know we want to base ourselves.  Thanks for the suggestions

Stayed at Rosquil March of 2011.... one of the best B&B's in Ireland we've ever stayed at. We walked downtown for food and music, and it took about 10-15 minutes. Rosquil's have a business card with a telephone number for a reliable, not too expensive, taxi service, which we used to get back to the B&B around 11 PM. Something to consider.

Stayed at Abbeylodge, can highly recommend. Close walking distance and very modern.

I had decided that I wanted to stay at Dumromin but it was completely booked.  Then I was trying to decide between Laragh House and Rosquil when my husband came up with Abbeylodge and Butler Court.

Has anyone had experience with Butler Court?

I've not been to Butler Court. It is in a good location but does not have private parking.

Have been to Butler Court and it was quite nice -- best thing about it is the location.  Much closer to city center than any of the others mentioned if I recall.  There was complimentary parking at a car park nearby when we were there, but nothing right at the facility.

We stayed a few days at Butler Court a few years ago and were very pleased with it. The location cannot be beat - a few steps from the town center but very private and quiet. They did not serve a 'full Irish' type of breakfast but supplied a good in-room Continental breakfast. The rooms are large and very well equipped. The owner Yvonne is a dynamo - very helpful and entertaining.

The breakfast at Abbeylodge was second to none. The location was good. My only regret was spending only one night there and in Kilkenny as it was a stopover on our way to Co Cork.
