Hi Michele, first a quick story on how I found IrelandYes/you. Was at the eye doctor in Lakeland,FL, sitting in the waiting room and telling the optician that we were going to Ireland for vacation. A woman, sitting nearby, came up to me and said that if I wanted info on traveling in Ireland, I should visit the website 'IrelandYes' or buy a book by Michele Erdvig. Then she admitted that she might be a bit biased because the book was written by her daughter. Yes, it was your mother. Gotta love a proud Mom! And of course I bought the book, because its been more than 10 years since our last trip to Ireland. The book is wonderful. I picked up several hints and places to visit, so thank you. And thank your Mom.
We land in Dublin on morning of July 29 (14 day trip) and will then drive to Killarney area. Any suggestions for a good place to stop for late breakfast/lunch along the N7, on a Sunday?
We have 4 days/5 nights in the Killarney area, with golf scheduled at Ballybunion, Waterville, Old Head of Kinsale and Tralee. I found a couple of suggestions in your book for eating while near these courses. Any suggestions for casual, pub like places within driving distance of the Dunloe Castle Hotel, Gap Rd. Dunloe Upper Co.?
One last question; from Killarney, we head to Connemarra (family visits) on Aug 3. Looking for a good place to stop/lunch along the way. Around Ennis? Wide open to suggestions here.
Welcome to the forum. What a fun coincidence your meeting my mother and finding me that way. She is good at publicity! I'm glad that my book is a help with planning.
I suppose where you stop will depend on arrival time in Dublin. Are you going all the way to Limerick on the N7 and then south to Killarney? That is quite a drive for your first day in Ireland and more than I usually recommend people do with jet-lag. The Silken Thomas Pub in Kildare might suit you for a break. They do breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
There is lots of good pub grub in the Killarney area. Murphy's is good. And I always like Mac's and Bricin restaurants.
In Ennis try the Poet's Corner in the Old Ground Hotel. They are consistently good.
Michele
P.S. I just called my mother and read her this post. She got a real kick out of it.
We land at 8:15 am, direct from Orlando, so a stop in Kildare might be just about right. Thanks for that suggestion.
Yes, the N7 to Limerick and down to the Dunloe. It's the directions the hotel provided and they say it will take about 3 1/2 hrs. I know it's a stretch but can't be helped. Hopefully, with 2 of us driving, we can make it.
Thanks for the other suggestions, especially for Ennis. We drove through there last visit and I'd really like to stop this time.
Glad your Mom got a kick out of my post. She was very nice, just like most people down here in Lakeland.
The timing for the pub in Kildare should be about right. It will take longer than 3.5 hours to Killarney. More like 3 hours to Limerick and 1.5 to 2 hours down to Killarney.
Let us know if you have any other questions. We want to make your trip special.
You are planning to drive from Dublin Airport to Killarney and from there to Connemara in a day each?? Sorry but who sold you this idea and what else has been planned?
Brogans on O'Connell St is our regular eat/drink place in Ennis, poets corner would be a second choice.
