Kilkenny Castle

Michele,

I was reading your book on Kilkenny Castle and noticed the hours for October-March  listed there are only 10:30-12:45 pm.  Do I need to pre-book a tour now since they evidently aren't open very long. Unless I'm reading your notes wrong. I was reading on page 220

Thanks

Sue

Sue,

The updated hours are 9:30 to 4:30. Having said that, Ireland can be quirky. Last time I toured the castle they closed for lunch. Maybe they didn't have enough staff that day. Who knows? So you should be fine. They don't pre-book tours anyway.

Standard Irish Lunch time closing is 1pm to 2pm (if they do have lunchtime closing)

Thanks, we'll just show up, but not for "LUNCH". Appreciate the info.

Sue,

You can have your own lunch then!

Or use that hour for a Cathedral, maybe climb St Canices Round Tower?

we do have that on our list too. Am glad you all recommended adding a day to the Kilkenny "leg" of our trip. I have found some interesting areas to the west, east and south that we're hoping to drive too as well.

The Smithwicks Brewery tour is awesome, if it is still available! You need to get tickets ahead, as they only take about 12 at a time for a great 2 hour tour, followed by a taste of one of the best beers in Ireland (I think the 2 hour tour made us thirsty!)

I did already book the Smithwick's Brewery tour as they mentioned also, they were very full for the day we'll be there. Thanks for all the tips.
