Our plans for 2013 are coming together and we have a question about Bank Holidays.
Are plans are to arrive in Shannon on Tuesday May 14th after a night flight and returning to the USA on either June 3rd or 4th, the 3rd is a Monday and it is also a Bank Holiday.
So my question is that I dont really understand Bank Holidays and we thought we would spend our last day in the Shannon area doing the Touristy things, Bunratty Folk Park and such. Would it be worth our while to fly out on Tuesday or fly on Monday?
The best way to explain a Bank Holiday is to liken it to a long holiday weekend in the States. Since Bank Holidays fall on Monday that means Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights should be booked in advance for popular places. Some B&Bs will only take 2-night bookings over a Bank Holiday.
Unless you are traveling stand-by on your flights the Bank Holiday really doesn't make any difference to your flight plans.
Thank you for the replys, The thing is that I really dont know is whats open or closed on a Bank Holidays besides Banks and the Post. Here in the USA when theres a Federal Holiday such as Memorial Day, all State & Federal Offices are closed, and most People minus those in the Service Industry (Shops & Restaurants) are off from Work, thus everything is crowded. Will restaurants and such be open on Bank Holidays, or are they treated like a Sunday (I do like eating in Pubs)? Thanks again,
Restaurants, pubs, sightseeing, etc. are all open. Banks, governmental offices, post offices will be closed. Popular areas (especially if the weather is good) can be more crowded. I think you will be fine in the Bunratty area. You might see more people wandering around the folk park than usual but I don't think it will greatly impact your plans.
