I like the theatre, I found that while we will be staying in Rusheen Lodge in Ballyvaughan, that there is a play on in at the town hall theatre in Galway. Is it a reasonable thing to do on my second day driving in Ireland to drive back to Rusheen Lodge in the dark after the play, or will I get hopelessly lost? (Sense of direction is usually pretty good, and I don't drink). Not quite clear how far away the two are, and how rural Rusheen Lodge is?
Ballyvaughan is an hour from Galway centre after 7pm and it is not a difficult place to find on the main Clare coast route down the N18 and turn right at Mother Hubbards after Clarinbridge onto the N67. Don't try and save time cutting over the Burren even I got lost up there in daylight yesterday.

Could you stay in Galway instead? I generally don't recommend driving distances after dark since it is so easy to get lost in Ireland (very dark and no street lights outside of towns). If you must attend the theater, take Tony's advice. The coast road will get you there.
Thanks so much. Already made reservations at Rusheen Lodge (without realizing how far out of Galway it was). Oops. Suppose I could change reservations, and spend Friday night in Galway. Any recommendations for basic accommodations in town?
Rusheen Lodge is right on the main coatal road and an hour is no hardship even in the dark on the N67 in Ireland. Irish cars have these things called headlights just like they have in other countries. Whilst I wouldn't advise driving over really rural roads after dark the 10 miles from the N18 trunk road on the 67 to Ballyvaughan is a good route.
If you want to stay in Galway then Prauge House, The Forge House or Herons Nest are all close to the City,
