There are two companies crossing from Wales to Ireland, Irish Ferries who I avoid and Stena Line who I use. There are no Discounts for Seniors from either carrier any day unless there is a special deal. Rail and Sail may be cheaper booking a little in advance and may give senior discount on the rail portion but not much as the foot passenger rate and Rail and sail to/from UK mainline stations is much the same booked a day in advance.
If you are travelling by car book 28 days in advance (and let me know ) Stena offer 3 rates fixed, flexible and Stena Plus. Irish ferries offer one rate which you can upgrade to "Club" Class but not worth it. Booking Stena ie gives a slightly better price than booking on Stena UK if you were coming the other way by car.

we are planning on taking ferry from dublin to holyhead and wondering whether you save any money by purchasing tickets ahead of time and if so how long . Are there any discounts available for certain days or seniors
