I have so many recommendations for good B&Bs, guesthouses & hotels that I periodically change my "Lodgings" page to give different places a turn to be listed on my website. If a place is suddenly gone it doesn't mean that I no longer recommend it. On the other hand, It is possible that they are no longer recommended, which is why I have this forum.

In the case of Tudor Lodge in Laragh (Glendalough) I re-visited it recently and have removed it from my "recommended" list. As you might expect owners, accommodations and various things change in that type of a business. I found that Tudor Lodge was no longer meeting my various requirements for a personal recommendation from me. I'm sure that others may have differing opinions about Tudor Lodge. But with my reputation on the line when making a personal recommendation, I must be extremely fastidious in removing places that I no longer would want to stay at myself. I am looking for the best places in Ireland to recommend. I do have other suggestions of places to stay in Glendalough. Let me know if I can be of help with any other questions.

Thanks. I will look at the other B&Bs. How come you do not have a page with B&bs you do not like on? It would make life simpler.

Sam,

I prefer to focus on the positive rather than the negative. Hence my recommendations for excellent places to stay in Ireland. When asked specifically about a certain B&B that I have knowledge of, I do give my opinion. Like I say on the introductory page to the forum I don't sugar-coat my info. So if you need any more opinions, just ask. And do take into account that what I give is my personal first-hand opinion. People do disagree with me and they have every right to do so. I have very high standards for places that I recommend.

Hi Michele, been away from the chat room a while, figure I'll get onto your new board. Looks great. Now about Sam asking about the Tudor Lodge. Couple years ago Mary and Istayed their. It was very nice at the time we stayed. But I do recall the host mentioning (i believe it was the Kennedy's running it), well he said he was off to Spain. I said what for. He said they were buying another B &B. So maybe that accounts for the Laragh place not being kept up to our standards. They could be stretching themselves thin. But at the time we enjoyed it, signed the breakfast time book and had a wonderful breakfast.

Welcome to the new board! Thanks very much for your comments. Too bad that Tudor Lodge has changed. The listing in the 2005 Family Homes of Ireland book says the owner is Noel Hanlon. When I visited in September it was being managed by Sigita who showed me around. Now the website says "Under New Management" and has the name Jane & Chris on the bottom of the page. Things there are changing by the second. I like finding places to recommend that have some sort of consistency and that remain good from one year to the next. Obviously this B&B is in flux.

One good note is that I found other very nice places to stay in the area.
