Thanks for the time and energy you all pour into your responses. I want to take my mother to Ireland on a mother/daughter trip in September 2013; we're irish and she's dreamt of visiting one day. It would be a 13-day trip throughout in South-Western Ireland, flying in/out of Dublin. I'd like to give us time to rest and relax in the beauty while still seeing notable spots and having fun (castles, landmarks, the occasional gardens, other activities?).
I've done research and with my limited knowledge, this is what I have. I'd love input and suggestions:
- Day 1: Arrive in Dublin
- Day 2-4: Pick up car and head to Galway (would like to see Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, open to suggestions)
- Day 5-6: Head to Killarney (would like to see Valentia Island, Ring of Kerry, Derrynane House, Muckross House & Gardens) Is this too much time or not enough?
- Day 7-11: Open to suggestions from here on out (would like to see Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle, possibly Ballyvolane House)
- Day 12-13: Back to Dublin, (would like to see the Book of Kells at Trinity College)

Hello and welcome There are a few Itineraries that could cover 13 days and whilst you have things split up I would reconsider on a couple of grounds.. Either have Dublin as a whole at the front or back and reverse the order. Kilkenny is within striking distance of Dublin on arrival. From there past Cashel and Cahir to Cork for nights 2 & 3. Nights 4, 5, Killarney. Night 6 for Dingle which is I believe a compulsory stop. Between there and Galway you have Limerick where Adare is a pleasant stop for Lunch (although I prefer Listowel) with Clare north of the Shannon. Ennis is a good touring base for the whole of Clare and could be a possible for nights 7 & 8. As to the Arans, most visitors aim for the largest Island Inis Mor which is best approached from Rossaveal west of Galway. Personally I prefer Inis Oirr and would consider there with a Combi Cruise under Moher from Doolin on the way up to Galway (or if the dates fit Clifden for Arts week) and a look round the Connemara before the last nights in Dublin
That would (apart from the Dingle overnight) be my Holiday which it is not, Your holiday may take something or nothing from there.

I will add my welcome to Tony's and second his idea of adding the Dublin portion of your trip at the end. That will give you a jump start on your trip. You can easily reach Kilkenny in 2 hours from Dublin. It is a very nice city for a couple of days. I assume you are renting a car?
I like that you are trying to spend multiple nights in each area. That's smart, especially since you want your mother to have a relaxing time.
