FIRST TIMERS - Help with itinerary

About us - My husband and I own a dairy farm and I am a nurse. Likes - mild hiking and biking, eating out (no seafood), and farmland with panoramic views. Our trip will be 8 nights flying in/out of Shannon from NYC. We will rent a car. Must do: Ring of Kerry Would like to visit: ashford castle, kilkee cliff walk, dingle peninsula, rock of cashir, cahir castle, bike muckross park to ladies view. Staying a couple of nights where we could easily walk from room to pub in the evening. I would like to mix our accommodations between b/b, hotel, and castle hotel. I also want to make reservations ahead. A B/b on a working dairy farm would be nice but is not a must. 1) where should we start? I imagine us being tired mid afternoon the first day. 2) what should our route be? 3) where should we base ourselves? I've heard 2 nights in one location is best. Thanks for your help

One place I think would be of interest to you on your visit to Killarney would be Muckross Traditional Farms. You can tour 3 working farms from the 1930s and 1940s on the grounds of Muckross house. If you are biking up to Ladies View the entrance to the grounds would be on your way up the mountain. There is also a nice café on the grounds.

Welcome to the forum.
A little more thought on my answer given on TA. How about Night One at Clonmore Lodge http://www.westclare.net/clonmorelodge/ in Quilty, a working farm accommodation handy for Kilkee and an easy drive day one from SNN.

Ashford Castle night two after following the coast past the Cliffs. back down to the Shannon on day three

We like the http://www.woodlands-hotel.ie/ in Adare but you could opt for the Manor or http://www.dunravenhotel.com/

Drive the Dingle peninsula ending in Castlemaine http://murphysfarmhouse.com/ before driving the ring of Kerry ending in Kenmare http://www.abbeycourtkenmare.com/

The rest of the route back to Dublin would incorporate Cashel and Cahir, should you decide to stay in Cahir then Carrigeen Castle B&B might suit http://www.tipp.ie/butlerca.htm

Staying a couple of nights in a couple of places might fit but when there are so many points on your wish list it might not be posible.

Tony, Thanks for your more detailed response. We have decided to fly in and out of Shannon and extend our stay to 8 nights. I'm thinking of eliminating ashford castle and sticking to staying below kilkee. I've also been told that the cahir area is rich farmland so this may. Be a good area to stay as well as we want to see the rock and the cahir castle. My guess would be to stay in a hotel in Killarney, but haven't decided what area to choose a castle hotel. Thoughts?

I completely agree with Judy that you must visit Muckross Traditional Farms in Killarney. You will find this link helpful for finding farmhouse B&Bs: http://www.irishfarmholidays.com/ifh/index.cfm

For wonderful farmhouse B&Bs on the Dingle peninsula:

Coill an Rois

The Shores

Tower View

Castle Hotels:

Ballyseede Castle

Dromoland Castle

We are here to help you plan your trip. Break out your map, calendar and list of "must sees". Make an attempt at an itinerary and we will be happy to help you refine it.
