Ireland Roadtrip in March - Need Excursion Suggestions

Hello-

My fiance and I are traveling to Ireland at the end of March. We're flying into Dublin and then driving to Killenard where were staying for one night. From there we are driving to Killarney for a two-night stay. Then it's on to Mayo for another two-night stay, and finally we're driving back to Dublin where we'll spend one night. Since we're not from the area we'd love any suggestions on things to do either in those towns or places to stop along the way. We're in our 20s, and we love hiking, exploring new towns and stopping at a pub or three for some beer and live music. Any suggestions??

In Mayo, the best town for pubs and traditional music is Westport.  I really enjoy the village and find it a wonderful place for two days or more, doing day trips to Crough Patrick (if you hike, it's a must for you), Kylemore Abbey, Cong, etc.  Plenty to select from.

Do some reading on Crough Patrick for sure, as you could do an entire day there hiking, and it is just a few miles from Westport.

I am quessing this is a Travel Agent arrangement with the Heritage then a top Killarney Hotel then Ashford Castle??

Cahir and Cashel are possabilities for sights between Killenard and Killarney.  From Killarney to Ashford is a long drive but it could include a diversion from Ennis onto the coast for the Cliffs of Moher up to Kinvara then back onto the N18 towards Galway, to Headford and to Cong.

For this leg I did a map for someone there last year   http://goo.gl/maps/iSQcB  The N59 from Galway to Leenane has some spots worth a look? http://ireland.activeboard.com/t50055177/n59-galway-route/

While in Killarney you might want to check out the Gap of Dunloe and the Kerry Way for hiking.

In Killarney I would not miss:

Muckross House & Gardens - Don't know if the farms will be open then but check on it.

Muckross Abbey

Torc Waterfall

Ross Castle

Cherry Tree Walk - through the "golden gates" - just ask anyone there

Where are you staying in Mayo? I always enjoy Achill Island and the scenic drives there.
