First of all, I am new to this site and have found it to be extremely helpful. I will be starting my trip in Dublin and was planning to go the first couple days without a car to avoid the traffic and parking problems. Is the DART system good for getting around to all of the sites? I have heard the horrors of taxis and their fares. Is it realistic to see Dublin without a car?
Thanks for your comments about my website. You are starting out on the right foot. A car in Dublin is just a detriment. The traffic can be horrendous and parking is a definite challenge. So being without a car and using public transportation is best.
Dublin is a small walkable city (the places that most tourists want to go). You should be able to access everything you want by DART, bus or walking. There is also an AirLink bus from the airport to many downtown hotels. You might enjoy taking the hop on hop off bus (pass good for 24 hours). It will give you a good tour of the city and then you can get on and off as you please at various attractions.
