After 15 trips to the Emerald Isle, I like being able to watch a trip unfold through fresh new eyes....Ireland...grit and grand...
Such is the case with a client of mine that is now off on his "Ireland Adventure"...He even brought his mom along...and if it coincided with Mother's day...well taht lets him off the hook for many a year...
Last June, Amaris Henry, a young man who interned with us at our shop as part of his graduation requirements for High School, spread his wings and flew into the crazy adult world of "After High School"... Asked by his grandparent what he wanted to do for his Graduation, He replied "I want to go to Ireland"
Fast forward to almost a year later, He and his mother are off on their Ireland adventure... I built their Itinerary for them...He will be blogging as they go...
Follow along if ya wouldn't mind... It is always interesting to see Ireland through fresh eyes...even if the first day is usually a rough one... He promises photos in the next blog post...
They've seen Kilkenny, Cashel, Cahir and the West of Cork... All since their arrival on Monday...They are now headed to Killarney for a few days:
Thanks for sharing this post. I really had to laugh at his comment "Street signs in Ireland either don't exist, or are difficult to see." That is one thing I could never understand, how do the native Irish ever find their way around. They can't possibly know by sight every road beyond their local area. Even my Cork cousin got lost driving us around. It doesn't seem to frustrate them like it does for us.
I look forward to reading more posts from this first timer in Ireland. I'm sure he will love every minute of his holiday, street signs or not.
Sounds like they are in good hands with your advice. That was quite a first day....sounds like the way the "Murphys" travel....hit the ground running, keep busy the 1st day, and then crash for a good night sleep and get the clock reset to Ireland time.
I empathize with them getting lost. In the 1st 3 trips to Ireland, we were lost more than I care to admit. However, the garmin nuvi gps and the inexpensive UK sd card was a life saver. It along with good maps, took so much stress out of navigating. Won't go to Europe and drive again with out a gps!
What a great way for a youngster just out of high school to spend time out in the real world with his Mum! Wish more kids could be so lucky.
Jet-lagged and lost. Hail, wind and rain. I know the feeling. Sounds like they got lost in the Wicklow mountains. Easy to do unless you know what to "aim for".
Hope once they get some pics they change the one of Versailles hall of mirrors to Ireland.
FLANO's comment was that their first day in Ireland sounded a lot like HIS first day in Ireland in June 2011...only they weren't driving a 9 passenger van, manual shift, and contending with a cyclist race as well as bad weather.
I had warned them about the non-existent signs...but his mother especially was in overload, I think...not much was processing through
They promise more blog...and lots of pictures... They said Beara stole away their breath too many times to count.... It now being the 16th there, they will be rising soon and headed for Killarney round the ring....
Neither has ever been out of country....
He posted this on his FB page this morning:
Never before have I seen such a beautiful landscape as here in Ireland. Magic is truly to be found in every place you look.
The full extent of Ireland's beauty can not be captured in words, pictures or any other medium. It must be experienced in person.
I think the boy has been bitten by the Ireland bug!
I know it is like watching over a baby chick as they travel around. Let's hope they become Ireland addicts like us. Once the Ireland bug bites you, you're a gonner!
