Ferry from Holyhead to Dublin

Fourth trip!  We'll be coming in from Wales in September on the ferry from Holyhead, planning to stay two nights in Dublin before hiring car for two weeks.

Looking for recommendation of cheap hotel in central Dublin, short taxi ride from the ferry, with free minibus to airport for car. Within walking distance to National Museum (near St.Stephen's Green).

Anyone know of a car rental company in downtown that would let us drop off at Shannon? Would be nice if we could rent car in UK (two weeks there) from the same company.

Most of the car rental companies in Ireland will allow you to rent in Dublin and drop off in Shannon without extra charges. But you must check the rules one company at a time. You never know when they will try to slip something into the fine print.

You will not find a city center hotel with free shuttle to the airport. Only the airport hotels have those. You will have to get a taxi or bus.

Cheap and central in Dublin can be problematic. Try Jurys Christchurch for a basic no frills hotel.

If you are coming over Rail and Sail as I do a few times in the year I recommend Stena line over Irish ferries. You get the option of a Coach with Baggage hold into the city rather than the Dublin Bus everyone and their baggage first come or get a cab approach from Irish ferries (there are other reasons but that would involve a rant).

Dooley have a virtual office in Dublin Centre as to Europcar (or could be Enterprise?) where they collect you from your hotel for the rental.
