Has anyone ever stayed at Wicklow Head Lighthouse? Any ideas to share of things to do around there? (I know there is a ton, but any recommendations?) We prefer off the beaten path places and will have a car. They have a 3 night minimum and we will travel either in Spring of 2014 or fall of 2014. Does anyone know of any others you can actually stay in?? Thanks all!!
There is Blackhead Lighthouse in Antrim but it would be a bit large for two people, as it sleep seven.
The Lightkeeper's house at Loophead, in Co Clare, sleeps five.
The Galley Head Lightkeeper's house, down near Clonakilty in Co Cork, sleeps four.
They are all Landmark Trust properties, as is the one you are staying at on Wicklow Head.
I have yet to stay in any of the Landmark Trust properties. However, one of my client's asked that their May itinerary be built around several of the properties, Galley Head, Anne's Grove and Helen's Tower . They were well satisfied. The email I received from them asked if I could stop time so they wouldn't have to leave. I would say that speaks well of the Trust properties.
Thanks everyone! I agree with Tony, we love flying in and out of Shannon and just love the Loop Head drive! What drew me to Wicklow Lighthouse is that you actually stay in the lighthouse itself vs the keepers cottage. I will check out the others as well. We will likely end our trip in Dingle and fly home from Shannon.
I think that may well be one of the only if not THE only one that you can stay in... I am not very good on stairs...so lightkeeper cottages would be the best of it for me...
