It is one of my husband's dreams to go to Newgrange and I have booked a weekend in March that will allow us to go.. which is great...
However, a lot of what I have been reading is that it is not for the claustrophobic, and you have to duck and walk sideways at some points. My husband is 5 ft 7 and quite a heavy man at 20 stone and I am worried that he will not be able to go into the tomb itself if he has to walk sideways. Has anyone else any experience of this - will he have to stay outside?
It is a long time since I was up there but I don't remember any tight places (at the time I had a 42" Chest on 6'2" frame). It might be worth asking the question to the source though, just for piece of mind.. http://www.newgrange.com/contact.htm

The passageway is long and narrow. There is one point where the stones have shifted a little where there might be a squeeze. You can ask the guide if your husband can enter last so that if he can't go through, he can go back out without disrupting the others on the tour. I thought the interior was pretty spacious but they do pack a lot of people into it. That made me feel claustrophobic. Less people inside would have been better.
The visitor's center has a mock up of the interior at winter solstice. So if your husband has problems entering Newgrange he can view that with no problem.
