Keith hates it when I start thinking...

Okay, I'm rethinking our first two days/nights in September. We will be arriving at Shannon early in the morning on Sept 11. Originally we thought of heading down to Dingle, but that is the start of the Dingle Trad festival and lodgings are scarce. Since we've never visted Wexford and Glendalough - but found these too far from our Mallow self catering, we had crossed them off the list.

Now I wonder if it might work to spend those first two nights in Kilkenny, and do a day trip out east from there. Is Kilkenny too far of a drive from SNN?

You would be more than welcome in east Clare.. Killaloe is a fair base under an hour from Shannon and about 1 1/2 hour over to Kilkenny from there.

Have you tried these places in Dingle:

The Shores Country House (on the north shore near Castlegregory)

Castle House  (near Castlegregory)

Coill an Rois

Granted none of them are right in Dingle town but they are on the peninsula

It is over 2 hours to Kilkenny and about 91 miles.

I'm with Tony, but I REALLY like Mountshannon.  biggrin

LOTS to do and see.  Iniscealtra (Holy Isle), Portumna, Birr and Roscrea -- as well as Killaloe.

My most recent visit:  http://ireland.activeboard.com/t54502434/one-trip-two-visits-junejuly-2013/
