It is a ruin that is not open to the public.  Locals began an organization to secure ownership and preserve the structure, but that was back in 2000 - 2002.  To the best of MY knowledge, nothing much as been done.  http://www.kilmurry.ie/villages/carrigadrohid/carrigadrohid_castle/carrigadrohid_castle_survey_4.htm

Ahhh...you picked several that are on our list. I'm working on a route that will take us from Ivy Bridge Cottage to Kilcrea, Kinsale, the English Market, Blarney and back to Ivy Bridge. Our plan is for this to be on Monday the 15th. Of course, this is my birthday, so I'm hoping to find something fabulous at the market for my personal chef to make me for dinner!

How about Kilcrea, Beal na M'Blath, Kinneagh Round Tower (one of only two remaining Towers in Cork -- and has a UNIQUE base!), Timoleague, Kinsale and then home, to Ivy Bridge?

You pass through Coppeen on the way and Enniskean, after.

Google Maps says 120 miles and 3.5 hours.

Potential detours:

Rosscarbery :   Coppinger's Court  http://www.abandonedireland.com/cc.html

Clonakilty     :   DeBarra's  http://www.debarra.ie/       (Should get Keith's vote!)

Problem with a lot of ruins in Ireland is that of Ownership .. whilst a local group can form to preserve a structure there is a lot of messing before any rights to that structure can be given. The simple (!) task of finding ownership and rights can take years and unless there is dedication and determination these things especially in the current economic climate tend to fall by the wayside. the flip side is that you can't be prosecuted for trespass?

Coppinger's Court.. a little less overgrown than it was in 2006 when we were there..it can be a hunt depending on the roadside vegetation... and there are cows in the field to be dealt with but they don't usually pay any mind to two-legged wanderers ...

That being said, it is a wonderful ruin

Bob's link wouldn't open for me...

so here is another... here

Thanks Bit & Bob for the links.

Bit - you know me and those cows...they try to stampede me!!! There best be a style with a moat on each side to keep them from following me!
