Ireland Tour Operators

Can you please tell me who is the best Tour Operator in Ireland to book a trip with?  I have contacted Exploring Ireland Tours but they are charging the same price for a 4 year old as the rest of us.  We want a private chauffeured tour instead of a big bus group. Going September 2015.

Thank you

Would need more information.

How many in your party?  What age?  How many days?  What areas are you interested in seeing?

It will be 4 adults and one 4 year old for 7 days.  We are first timers and they gave us Dublin, Galway City, Clare, Kerry, Cork, Meath.  Also, does anyone know anything about this company, I have read good and bad.

Thank you

Why not hire your own chauffeur-driven limo and create your own itinerary? Many of my clients have done just that and instead of having a "canned" tour they had a unique tour of Ireland. Although it can be pricey you should be quoted one inclusive price for the chauffeur and limo. Just find out in advance how many hours a day the chauffeur will do.

Let me know if you would like some suggestions.

We don't need a limo just someone to drive us around.  We are afraid to drive and we don't want the bus tour where you have to wait on everyone to return.

You say you are afraid to drive ... any tangible reason why?  You might find out -- like most do -- that you get used to driving on the left quickly. If you have someone in the car who can serve as a map person, it can be a fairly easy transition.

If one person in your group would want to give it a try ...

Everyone is different when it comes to their comfort zone -- but having your own car is far and away the best way to see Ireland.  We were all probably nervous the first time, but for most those fears subsided quickly. smile

That being said, however you end up doing the trip, enjoy every moment!

Seems like your options are:

  • rent a car and do a self-drive trip
  • hire a chauffeur driven limo (the drivers and cars come together as a package deal)
  • take public transportation
  • take a bus tour (many don't accept young children)

If you are expecting to hire a driver and rent your own car that is highly unlikely.

"If you are expecting to hire a driver and rent your own car that is highly unlikely" knew I missed my vocation..

I would suggest deciding your locations as stepping stones,, Accommodation is an easy fix once locations are decided.. Then consider either public transport or a local driver point to point.. You do not need a full time driver and there are regular tours which might meet some of your needs from main locations.

As has been said already the biggest drawback to driving yourself is the perception that you yourself cannot handle the simple transition. the vast majority of visitors over here do manage quite well.

With only 7 days and a 4-year-old along, if you take public transportation I would concentrate on just two areas. Since you mentioned Dublin are you thinking of making that your gateway city in and out of Ireland? If so, you could get the train to either Killarney or Galway. That would give you a few days in Dublin and a few days in the other place of your choice. There are lots of day trips you can get from those places. Just be sure to book accommodations within walking distance of the cities or towns.
