Wellies are probably over-kill, unless you are planning some particularly extensive, off-road hiking.

Should that become an issue, there are plenty of low-cost options available, so that you don't need to take up valuable luggage space and weight.

Hope you really enjoy you trip and that you will "Drop In' to tell us all about your experiences, once you are 'Safe Home'. biggrin

Are flat espadrilles an impractical choice?

Not sure what those are, but my wife usually brings (including the ones she wears) TWO pair of flats and her 'hiking' shoes. Fashion needs are minimal, unless you plan to dine, 'tres elegante' and one of the PRICEY Castle Hotels, like Dromoland. confuse

Remember that extra shoes add space and weight to luggage and you will doubtless ADD to what you have with purchases that need to be brought home! biggrin

So -- My wife 'edjimacted me' on the espadrilles thing --- So, NOW, my rec would be to leave them home. They are ill-suited for a damp, rainy climate, given the fabric top and jute sole.

In June, over our three-week visit, we only had rain on about three days -- but, that is NOT typical, nor normal! aww

I can tell you are excited about the countdown to Ireland.

A good pair of sneakers with plenty of tread gets me through most of Ireland well. Unless you plan on slogging through bogs you probably won't use Wellies. I spray my shoes with waterproof spray.

Thanks Michele-this chickie doesn't slog anywhere ðwe are going in the Shades of Ireland tour with Collette. Only rural activity is Mollana dairy farm.

I do not posses a pair of wellies, living in bog forestry Chris has a pair for walking the dogs and I borrow a pair if helping on the farm,, Other than that its Light weight Hiking boots or work boots (steel toe cap compulsory for me).
