dress attire

I'm planning on a trip in a few weeks.  My daughter's friend told me that we shouldn't wear yoga pants, leggings, sweatpants, hooded sweatshirts.  These were considered "gang" related and we wouldn't be allowed in some places.  Is that true?  I was planning on leggings, boots, rain jacket (possibly sweatshirt underneath).  I've searched the internet and find nothing about this.

Please advise.  thanks you!!

With all due respect to your daughter's friend, that is nonsense. Surely she has never been to Ireland.

I was there last week and saw plenty of everything you just mentioned. What I didn't see were "yoga and sweat pants" gangs running rampant on the Emerald Isle. biggrin  You dress in layers, and I suspect I had a hooded sweatshirt on under my jacket most every day, and the ladies in our group lived in yoga pants most of the time.

The rule? Dress for comfort -- everyone does.

I'll second Geno's statement.  In nearly 20 visits over the past 16 years, I've never seen anything that would support your daughter's friend's comments.

While my wife's Irish cousins do LOVE to dress for an occasion, I've seen PLENTY of times that your preferred attire has been utilized by them and their friends.

Unless you are planning to dine at a top-tier, Castle Hotel (or attend a wedding!  biggrin), comfort generally trumps fashion, in my experience.

I agree with Bob and Geno. Ireland is a casual place and you may dress as you like. It would be interesting to know where the friend got that info.
