Family Friendly lodging for weekend in Killarney in June

Seeking family friendly lodging in Killarney... anyone care to recommend their favorite place and why they liked it. We want something nice but reasonable. I'm thinking close to the town and not in the middle of nowhere would be best so we don't have to drive at night. We are a family of 4 w/ 2 school age kids and LOVE the idea of having possibly TWO rooms so that everyone can get a little space on our 10 day trip. Will I regret that we didn't choose Kenmare or Kinsale instead??? Our stop after Killarney is Dingle then Bunratty. Suggestions welcome!!!

Irisheyes,

Since the guesthouse you were planning on staying at was a bit too expensive you might consider a B&B instead. Ask about a multiple-night discount and discounts for children. Try the following:

Applecroft: http://homepage.eircom.net/~applecroft/

Chelmsford: http://www.chelmsfordhouse.com/

Ashville: http://www.ashvillekillarney.com/

Fairview: http://www.fairviewkillarney.com/ (Note: they only have about 4 parking spaces & if they are full you will have to use a public parking lot nearby.)

Robeen House: http://www.robeenhouse.com/

There is a lot more for kids to do in the Killarney area than in Kenmare or Kinsale.

Thank you so much. Are they ranked in order of your preference? Are they all close to town ? I will check the web sites.

I emailed one of those tonight. I'll let you know if it's a go or if I think of more questions. I'm just saying "NO" to the one/s sitting on a main road.

Irisheyes,

They are not in any particular order. All are within walking distance of Killarney.

Michele,
Do you know anything about a rally happening in Killarney the weekend of June 24 and 25? I'm told that the city is mostly booked up by now and unless I'm part of this "rally" (whatever that is??) I shouldn't even consider it as a destination on this weekend. Please let me know !!! Thank you!!

Hi Irisheyes
The rally might be the european harley davidson owners celebration. My husband is not happy that we will miss it by 2 days ,I am very happy that we will.

Hi again
I just looked and the HOG website said the rally will have 20,000 people and is from June 22 to 25.
You may want to reroute your plans for this area.I live in an area that has a harley event every year(Cape May County ,New Jersey) it is a nightmare and very very loud.Maybe the European owners are better behaved than the US are,but I wouldn't have my kids around them at night things can get out of hand.Just my opion, and my husband is an owner and he stays away from the nightime "fun".Sorry I don't want to scare you as I don't have any experience on a ireland Harley event .

Irisheyes,

You do need to move from Killarney. I suggest Kenmare...and get right on it. Suggestions:

The Lodge

Lansdowne Arms Hotel

Willow Lodge

Brass Lantern

This is the link for the Hog Rally: http://www.irelandhogrally2006.com/

Michele,
I emailed a couple of places. Enough to do and see for 3 nghts? I could tack on another day somewhere else I guess, but that would rearranging everything. UGH.

Can you refresh my memory on how long of driving time to expect from Kilkenny?? This is where we'll be coming from.

Irisheyes,

There are lots of day trips you can do from Kenmare so I don't think you will run out of things to do. The kids might enjoy Seafari: http://www.seafariireland.com/

The time it takes to drive from Kilkenny to Kenmare depends on your route. Probably 4 hours or more.

4 hours is a long time. Do you recommend a place in between for one night??? Then 2 in Kenmare?

Irisheyes,

What route were you planning on taking? What were you planning on seeing along the way?

Irisheyes,

How about an overnight in Blarney or Kinsale?
