I stayed at Willow Lodge about two years ago. It is a small quiet B&B within walking distance of Kenmare near the church. Rooms vary in size, the smaller ones being on the third floor but they do have big genuine Jaucizzi tubs, which migh make up for the smaller bedrooms. The rooms on the second floor are larger and the bathrooms have showers. Everything was spic and span, beds comfortable, good breakfast and nice hosts. It is a comfy, homey place to stay.
The others were either full, didn't respond or too expensive and not family or kid friendly. I do have a place now, so all lodgings have been taken care of. Now on to the fun stuff....
Irisheyes, I just read your comment to me about how the Harley motorcycle convention wasn't on your to-do- list! So you're not staying in Killarney, but are staying in Kenmare instead. I'm jealous! I wanted to stay in Kenmare, it sounds like a wonderful quaint little town. Plus you can easily drive from Kenmare to Killarney or the Ring of Kerry if that is what you desire.
What is on your to-do list while staying in Kenmare? You know what I wanted to do from Kenmare? I wanted to go to Skibereen and see this little private museum where everything in it has been collected by one interesting older woman. I read about it in the National Geographic traveller's guidebook. It's called the Ceim Hill Museum. It sure intrigues me. "The cottage that houses Ceim Hill Museum, Union Hall, Skibbereen, Co Cork. tel 028 36280, crooked and cracked and sunk in a leafy dell, looks as if it has sprouted out of the earth. ....Miss Therese O'Mahony, owner and curator, collected everything herself from the land around her cottage...Miss O'Mahony is a herbalist, a healer, and a West Cork countrywoman..." Anyway that is from the National Geographic Traveler Ireland guidebook by Christopher Somerville.
Anyway if I was staying in Kenmare I was going to drive there and explore the little Ceim Hill Museum with my family. But now that my itinerary is done, I could only fit in Dingle, which will be our choice destination in the southwest for this trip. I hope to stay in Kenmare next time, so please do tell me how you end up enjoying it and what you do there!
Michele, have you ever heard of this little museum? Apparently you can see the sign for it before you reach Skibbereen...
Melissa5- Thanks for the tip. I'll cut and paste into my travel stuff!! Yes, Kenmare it is. 3 nights. I'll be sure to let you know what we think. We'll be there on a weekend too.
