It sounds okay. Depending on what you want to see and do around Limerick you might decide to spend just one night there and add it to Killarney. There is much to see and do in the southwest. An alternative to Killarney is nearby Kenmare.

Kenmare certainly would be an option. I will look into what there is in that area. We are not stuck on staying in Killarney...just the vacinity.

The reason we were thinking of Limerick for two nights is that we could drive to the Cliffs of Moher (sp?) from there easily. I want to give us lots of time to get to Limerick (stopping along the way) and then the whole next day to drive to the cliffs etc. The next morning we can have a good drive to Dublin with stop-offs on the way. I hear you have to get to the cliffs early to beat the bus tours. We are not stuck on staying right in Limerick...just the vacinity.

What are your thoughts?

It doesn't take all that long to drive from Killarney to Limerick. I do it in 1 1/2 hours but you may do it in 2. Another alternative is to take the car ferry from Tarbert to Killimer across the Shannon and drive up the coast of Clare. This would avoid Limerick completely. You could overnight near the cliffs and go there in the evening after the tour buses and crowds have left. Doolin is very closeby.

If you are going to be in the Killarney area on a weekend I would definitely suggest small, charming Kenmare instead. Otherwise Killarney is fine and has lots of lodgings.

Once you get your itinerary set you will want to make your reservations. July is very busy and this year is shaping up to be even busier than usual.

I forgot to mention that there is a lot of construction going on right now at the Cliffs of Moher as they build a new visitor's center. An alternative to is Loop Head, which is really a lovely drive and much less touristed.

Thanks for the "heads up" on the construction at the cliffs. We may have to rethink our route.

The other reason I wanted to stay in the Limerick area (other than the cliffs) is to attend the Bunratty Heritage Evening. Perhaps it would be better to stay in Bunratty the two nights, rather than Limerick?? Is it difficult to get from Bunratty to Dublin? We basically have all day as we are taking the 21:35 ferry to Holyhead that last evening. Hope to stop at some sights on the way to Dublin.

I have been looking at B&B's and guest houses in the Bunratty area. There appear to be many. I can't find a current web site or rates for the Park House B&B. It is highly rated on other sites. So is Ashgrove B&B.

Bunratty is a good place to stay for the Limerick area. It will give you access to all you want to do, has plenty of B&Bs, and you will be close to Bunratty Traditional Irish Night. I have some very good B&Bs for Bunratty on my "Lodgings" page that I have personally stayed at and highly recommend. You can't go wrong staying at Bunratty Lodge or Headley Court.

From Bunratty to Dublin will take about 4 hours on the main road.
