Dublin during the Centenary Celebration

We arrive Dublin on Good Friday and booked a two nights stay in the city center before realizing it was the Centennial of the Easter Rising. We were planning to take a Mary Gibbons day tour to Newgrange Saturday and received an email informing us that the pickup would be outside the city due to road closures that weekend. Now I am very concerned that we will have trouble getting our rental car into and out of our hotel. I would just cancel the car for two days, but that would mean arranging a rental pickup for Easter Sunday. I worry about doing that logistically. I've also thought about cancelling our hotel altogether, but we've arranged to meet my cousin Saturday night in Dublin and  I know it will be a late night. Does anyone have any information about road closures that weekend?  I can't seem to find anything on the Internet.  Thank you!

I haven't seen a road closure map yet but you do not want or need a car in Dublin city it will be a hindrance.

Personally unless you have specific interest in the centenary which I am guessing you don't, my suggestion would be to rearrange your itinerary to be outside of Dublin for the weekend. The Parade is on Sunday so that will be the biggest disruption in the city centre.

I had to look back for your itinerary.  You were flying into Shannon and out from Dublin. has that changed?

Could you cancel the hotel and stay a little outside of Dublin, perhaps Malahide or some place like that? That way the car and road closures will not impact you and you can take public transport into the city if you need to. For your late night a a taxi back to Malahide?

We are flying into and out of Dublin this time. We got a much better airfare. The last visit we literally only had hours in Dublin and I was hoping to spend a bit more time in the city. I knew we didn't need a car in the city, but our hotel has parking for 10 Euro per night and I thought it was easiest just to pick up the car at the airport rather than arranging transportation to a car rental location on Easter. Also, we are heading to Westport on Sunday and I was hoping we could get an early start that day. Well, early for us :). We like to enjoy a nice breakfast. If I could arrange it all over again, I would have made Dublin our last stop, but I'll look into staying outside the city our first two nights. Do you recommend Dun Laoghaire as a good option south of the city? We may want to drive into Wicklow.

We are basically retracing last year's trip, but trying to be more relaxed while visiting things we missed. We will spend one night in Westport, 3 nights in Galway, two nights in Dingle and two nights in Killarney before returning to Dublin for a mid afternoon return flight. We are hoping that the weather will allow us to take some walks or hikes that we weren't able to do last year. We are also hoping to drive at least a portion of this trip along the coast as we make our way from Galway city to Dingle and to explore either the Ring of Kerry or the Beara peninsula as a day trip from Killarney.

Yes, Dun Laoghaire will work for you as well and be more convenient to Wicklow.
