Luggage

I'm meeting my Dad in Ireland who I don't get to see much and we'll be there on Fathers Day. But I'm arriving a couple days earlier. He booked the hotel for me to stay at, so I'll be sort of stranded the first couple days. Is there a safe place to lock up your luggage where you can just hop on a bus (in case I opt out of a rental car) and go? We'll be in Dublin most of the time so I want to explore before he gets there.

I'm not sure if I understand your question.  If you have a Hotel room you can leave your luggage in it  Beyond that, there are a few places that will charge a daily fee to store your luggage, between checking out of one place and before checking in to another, if you want to leave your 'main' luggage while you leave town for a day or two.

Yes, that's what i meant Bob. Tired when I wrote that. There will be a couple days where I won't have a hotel, and I wondered if there was a safe and secure reasonably priced storage place to leave my luggage while i explore.

Thanks.

My Dad booked us a hotel but I'm arriving a couple days in advance of the reservation.

I was going to rent a car and just find a place to park each night for a couple of days. But from what I've been reading on here, not sure I want a car.

Some options in Dublin:

http://www.tipperaryhousedublin.com/baggage-storage/    Near Heuston Station

http://www.touristofficedublin.com/luggagestorage.php      Near Trinity College

http://www.nedkellys.ie/facilities/left-luggage.html             O'Connell Street

The airport also has that service, too:   https://www.dublinairport.com/at-the-airport/useful-information/additional-facilities

You neither want nor need a car for Dublin.

If you want to see other than Dublin for those first couple of days you can get an express bus from outside Dublin Airport and head for Galway and see the west coast, Cliffs of Moher/Aran Isles/Connemara or Cork for the South Coast. Another alternative with the express bus option is Belfast in the North if you want to get up to the Giants Causeway or do a Game of Thrones tour.

Not sure I understand where you plan on staying until you check in at the hotel your father booked for you.

Let me see if I understand the problem. You will arrive a few days before your father into Dublin. On those few days you either want to rent a car or take public transportation into the countryside before returning to Dublin to meet your father and stay in your Dublin hotel. You have luggage you don't want to tote around Ireland for the first few days. Instead you want to leave the luggage in Dublin and pick it up when you have a Dublin hotel. Is that the gist of it?

Thats exactly it Michele. And thank you all for your help. I'm really leaning towards the car rental. Just trying to figure it all out. This really isn't a trip I could afford. It's just an opportunity I can't pass on. I wanted to visit Ireland my entire life. And meeting my Dad there puts the icing on the cake. Him providing room and board is the only way I could convince myself to go. The plane ticket went on an already nearly unmanageable cc. But I thought it out and agreed that i'll just have to suffer any consequences with that later! So, I'm trying to save anyway I can (I'll eat very little, definitely not out much, but buying food at the markets, probably nutrition bars and such. Won't be buying hardly any knick knacks or souvenirs. I just want to visit with my Dad on a beautiful island and country and see as many sights as I can. Photography is also a big hobby of mine so I will be very busy with that. I also think driving abroad on the left side will be an adventure in itself. I considered taking buses to various parts and that's why i was inquiring about storage for my luggage the first couple days until my Dad arrives. But I'm really leaning towards the rental car. That way I can pull over when I want to and keep a peace of mind having my luggage and whatever else I bring with me. Mostly the freedom to travel when and wherever I want to. I love this forum and everyone's friendly advice. Thank you all.

Is purchasing the heritage card worth it?
