rental car coupons

Please direct me to any rental car coupons. Especially the free gps. That is very expensive but for me it seems would make my first trip to Emerald Isle a much more pleasant experience. Don't

want to spend half my vacation over there lost and inventing new curse words.

I have a tom tom 1. The card in it is for usa/Canada. The gps itself is several years old. Wondering if there is a card for Ireland. I know there is one for Europe.

A coupon for free gps would be very nice. Please advise if that little golden nugget exists :)

OR... is there a decent affordable portable navigation for Ireland I can purchase either there or over here. For 11 days most rental places are charging well over $100 (around $132)
for navigation. Seems to me that should just come with all cars nowadays. But what are my options out there?

As I mentioned in the Rental Car Sticky, Easy Tour Hertz was offering a coupon that you could down load and print AFTER you make your booking for a free gps. The only other coupon or promotion was a 5 or 10% off option with Dooley. I think the key word was "dochra" but maybe someone who has used Dooley will chime in with more details. As for using your own GPS, we were able to buy a British Isles sd card for about $40 on Amazon.com to put in my Garmin 1350 that worked well in Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Not sure if that is an option for a Tom Tom. The advantage of using your own GPS is that you hopefully know all the nuances of using it, and there might be a learning curve involved in using a rental unit. Regards Dan

For Dooley:  PADDYABU or DOCHARA are good for 5% or so discounts.  GPS has it's uses, but it really isn't necessary if your goals are the major tourist sites.  I use mine to find obscure, off the beaten-path locations like:  http://www.megalithicireland.com/Maghera%20Round%20Tower.html

This is behind some trees, off to the side, down a dirt lane that is connected to a side road . . .   BUT I can plug in the GPS co-ordinates and find it!  biggrin

About the cheapest prices I've seen are at Tesco Online and Argos, but they are still 60-70 Euro.  You could check on ebay here in the US and/or buy one in Ireland and resell it once you get home. Were it me --- for just the one trip --- I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for the advice. Bob, their are some major touristy sites i want to see. For starts giants causeway, the suspended bridge and titanic
museum looks really cool to me. But my heart will be the obscure off the beaten path locations! I don't want to mingle with tourists. I want to
mingle with the Irish! That's why I love the b&bs im staying at the first 3 days. I want to hear what the hosts have to tell me most. I'll love
meeting tourists as well, but what i really want is to mingle with the Irish and spending time on those back roads. So maybe you answered my
question then. No gps unless i get a real good deal. On second thought, I wouldn't mind having it if being lost gets in the way of being where
i need to be under certain time constraints. Decisions. More decisions.
