US Preclearance

Hiya,

Could anyone help with my query?  I have booked tickets to New York from Shannon with United Airlines.  The journey goes via Heathrow (1 hour 30 mins layover).  As the ticket was bought as a package and not 2 separate tickets (ie shannon to london and then london to new york), can i use preclearance in Shannon or do I have to go through immigration once in New York?

if you can answer that would be great!

thanks blankstare

We booked a trip in 2014 that was Seattle-London- Shannon and return. We were unable to do pre clearance in Shannon since we were going thru London. We had to do all the clearance when we got back to Seattle. I would bet your situation will be similar unless there have been drastic changes since then. I understand that pre clearance at Dublin and Shannon are for direct flights to the USA. Dan

As I understand it, Preclearance only applies on DIRECT flights from Ireland to the US.  Ireland and Canada are the ONLY countries that have Preclearance privileges under current US law.

As Dan said, even though your flight is through-booked, since you are NOT flying direct and non-stop, you will need to clear US Customs and Immigration at your first arrival airport in the US.

Bob and Dan are correct. Direct flights from Shannon and Dublin have the pre-clearance.
