Suggestions for B&B's?

In 30 days we'll be flying to Ireland for 3 wks and so far have just booked our first 2 nights in Dublin. We want to stay in B&B's for the price and a more local feel.I've read posts and checked all sorts of websites. It's hard to find pix of B&B's that show the bedrooms and not just the house exterior and dining room. We need soft & comfty beds and quiet so we can actually sleep as we are light sleepers. So we need advice from those who have been there, done that. So here's our itinerary. Suggestions for any of the towns would be greatly appreciated! After Dublin we go north with one day stops in Belfast(meeting relatives for the first time in Lurgan), Portrush, Donnegal, Westport. Then we're slowing it down to 2 days each in Galway, Doolin/Kinvarra, Dingle. Also considering stops in Killarney, Cobh, Kinsale then 2 days in Kilkenny and back to Dublin another day or two before we catch our plane home.We know all the sites we want to see just need places to stay and where to eat. Thanks for your insights.

RE: Suggestions for B&B's?

Chris,

Welcome to the forum! I agree with you that is very frustrating to look at B&B websites when they do not have photos of the bedrooms. Sometimes they have 20 shots of the garden, but we are not sleeping in the garden! I don't know why they do that.

First, you do know there is Bank Holiday over the long weekend of April 28-May 1? Reservations will be a must on those dates.

To start, take a look at my "Lodgings" page. If there are places you are interested in you can ask my advice on them since I have either stayed at them or inspected them. I have many, many more places listed in my book Best Little Guide to Ireland. The 2006 edition will be out real soon now. I do have complete descriptions of the places that I stay and am very particular about cleanliness. Also plenty of good restaurants in my book. You can read an excerpt here: http://www.irelandyes.com/excerpt.html

Lurgan is southwest of Belfast and although I don't have a personal recommendation there I do have a website bookmarked to look at in the future. It looks just lovely: http://www.newforgehouse.com/ If you decide to stay there I would appreciate hearing how you liked it.

I don't have a personal recommendation in Portrush but do have some nearby in Bushmills and Ballycastle. So head off to my Lodgings page to find them.

Michele

P.S. I am a light sleeper also and always travel with ear plugs.
