3 days in Galway

Hello,

This will be my first journey to Ireland. I am planning to spend 3 days in Galway. I am looking for one day trip to the Cliffs. Is there a tour that goes early morning so I might be to beat some of the crowds? Also where else would you recommend? I plan on doing day trips during the day and explore Galway late afternoon and evening. I am a bit overwhelmed so any advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Michele's Forum!  biggrin  biggrin

Will you have a car?  What time of year?  How many in your party?  Where will you be immediately prior TO and be going TO after?   confuse   confuse

Typical, Galway-based destinations are the Burren and Cliffs of Moher, Connemara and the Aran Islands (usually the largest -- Inis Mor).  Cong, Clifden and Westport are other common daytrip destinations.

Tours of Inis Mor, by Ferry boat:   http://www.aranislandferries.com/times_mor.php     By small plane:  http://aerarannislands.ie/   Neither depart from Galway, but both offer a shuttle bus that departs from town center.

Cliffs and Connemara tours:  http://www.galwaytourcompany.com/gtc/daytours.jsp        http://lallytours.com/      http://www.healytours.ie/tour_burren.html     http://www.galwaybustours.ie/cliffs-of-moher-burren-tour

Most Cliffs tours depart at either 10 AM or 11:30 AM.  To get an earlier start, I believe you would need to either drive or hire a hackney or local tour guide    https://www.toursbylocals.com/Galway-Tours

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I will not be driving (not this trip). I will be there in August and I am travelling solo for those days while the other people in my party work.

I welcome any suggestions for this time there.

The tours I've listed would fit the bill.  Each begin around 10 AM and end about 5:30 PM or so -- Giving you plenty of time to enjoy the sites and delights of the town.  Some companies offer Combo/Multi-Tour discounts.

If you go to Inis Mor, you can opt in to a small bus/van tour, hire a bicycle or a pony and trap/jarvey to see the island.

Thanks Bob for covering it so well. As mentioned, there are plenty of day tours to keep you busy during your 3 days in Galway. It is a fun old city with a young vibe. Enjoy!

Thanks so much! I will choose one of those or both of those tours. I wish I could drive so much to see and do.
