I'm trying to think outside the box and rework my itinerary. Which is very hard to do, but I'm trying. All this figuring out how far and how long is driving me crazy! I'm also coming to terms with not being able to see everything I want to. I guess there will have to be a second trip someday - not that that is a bad thing! Here is the first of what is sure to be several questions. Thankfully you are all so wonderful and patient!
I am wondering if it is possible to do the Dingle Peninsula as a day trip from Kenmare. How long would it take...what time would we expect to be back in Kenmare? Would it be a leisurely trip around the Peninsula or a rushed one? Any and all insight is welcomed!
I did it once and will not do it again. You will spend too much time driving and will feel rushed. It will probably take about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to Dingle. Plus you will want to see the Dingle Peninsula. You will be in the car all day. Learn from my mistake.
Thanks Michele! I knew you'd give it to me straight. I was debating between two or three nights in Kenmare. Now I know that two will do it and the third should be spent closer to Dingle.
I've been leaning towards that. I think my husband would like the music and pubs in Dingle. I keep asking him what he wants to see in Ireland and all he says is music, music, music. So...would we have time to leave Kenmare and drive to Dingle, stay overnight and do rest of the peninsula the next day en route to say Doolin? Or vice versa (since I still don't know which direction we'll be traveling from) - leave Doolin and drive to Dingle, stay overnight and get to Kenmare? The whole Dingle peninsula sounds so great and is one area I definitely don't want to rush.
