My husband and I are spending a little over two weeks in late May/early June. We will be staying in Kenmare for four nights which gives us three full days. Should we do the Ring of Kerry or the Ring of Dingle? We plan on spending a day in Killarney doing the Gap of Dunloe and Muckross House and National Park and another day in Kenmare. So that leaves us with one day for this drive. Any advice will be appreciated.
Personally I would take a day to explore Beara. Kenmare is an ideal base for Beara and also good for the Sheepshead and Mizen. No need to follow the tour bus's.
If you do decide to go the tour bus tracker option then the Iveragh driving the Ring of Kerry counter(anti) clockwise is probably the best option from Kenmare, remember the best parts are off the loop so take in the Skellig ring and Valentia, This is a full day tour. goo.gl/maps/y6LrdzMVXJ82

Since you'll be spending four nights IN Kenmare, I would use the DAY that you've dedicated to Kenmare to visit Beara. It's WELL worth it, and, in Late-May / Early June, there should be Plenty of daylight to also 'take in' Kenmare, during your time there.
I should also point out that the Gap of Dunloe Tour usually sarts about 10 or 10:30 AM and runs until close to 5 PM, so that won't leave a lot of time to also visit Muckross House OR Ross Castle (which is WELL worth a tour).
Where do you go AFTER Kenmare? You might be able to 'work in' a mini-tour of Dingle if Limerick or Clare factor in?

I vote for Beara as well. We are spending two days in Killarney b/c we could not get enough of it last time.
We had some GREAT tours with a little company Mor Active ( http://moractivetours.com/) two years ago. We did a Dingle hike and kayaked around Ross Castle.
My sons went last year and did sea Kayaking with them and loved it.
This time we will have a rental car the whole time so we have more options.
