Lough Gur

Someone mentioned Lough Gur in a trip report on another board. I did a quick search and it looks very interesting. I thought we might stop there on our way from Kenmare to Bunratty. It doesn't seem to be mentioned often even though it doesn't seem to be particularly far out of the way. Has anyone here visited? What were your impressions?

Thanks--oopsy

oopsy,

I have visited Lough Gur several times and it is in my book. If you are interested in Ireland's ancient past it will interest you. There is a small museum that gives you an overview of the area. There are many ancient artifacts left around the lake as well as Ireland's largest stone circle. Another interesting thing to visit is Croom Mills and you probably don't see that mentioned either.

Thanks Michele. I clearly need to do a more thorough read of the book. We've added Lough Gur to our "definitely do it if we feel like it and get out of Kenmare early enough" list.
